Creative impulses

This is from the Costa Rica series, mostly using travel magazines and in-flight magazines I'd left in winters past. Getting ready for the Chittagong show, thanks to the fabulous Alam inviting me to have an exhibition on my return to Chittagong in December. you can see the torn magazine pages, folded strips, rubber bands to maintain tension on the coils and a final bowl. often people comment that it takes a lot of patience, but mostly I go into a rather meditative state. Having a few different parts to the process means I can switch from one to the other. When I'm not enjoying it I stop. Such luxury.

vipassana released creative juices

Papertainers are my new obsession/art form/gleaner creation...

Vipassana released creative juices and they're flowing through my travels and travails. Then there was impetus from Frano, man of the ecological group in Stari Grad, who came to dinner and saw the old clothes baskets and told me there would be an earth day display in town and asked if I would like to be part of it. Netted a site on paper bowls (thinking it would be beneficial to show something that kids could make and took off from there. On the left is two I made from the Financial Times (gleaned from the seat leaving the plane in Kiev) which I started on the train ride to Poltava for a gig as a writing specialist for university English teachers. I have a soft spot for that one, some shell-like elegance and eccentric swirl that nudged me down an elegant path. On the right are an early assortment (including that peach-colored newspaper specimen) in my window at home in Croatia. Also a coconut animal from a friend in Costa Rica, lavender and sage. These are the clunky versions and show the transition from straight to off centered and uneven topped.
